Traffic restrictions for GOP Debate in Mesa

Because of the Republican Presidential Debate at the Mesa Arts Center Wednesday, Feb. 22, there will be traffic restrictions in part of downtown Mesa.

At midnight Tuesday night/Wednesday morning, Main Street will close in both directions between Center Street and Sirrine/Centennial Way.  At 6 a.m. Wednesday, Center Street between Main Street and 1st Avenue and 1st Avenue between Center Street and Sirrine will also close in both directions.  Only local traffic will be allowed on Sirrine between Main Street and 1st Avenue.

At 1 p.m. Wednesday, eastbound traffic on Main Street will be blocked at Macdonald while Sirrine between Main Street and 1st Avenue will close in both directions.  By 4 p.m. Wednesday, westbound traffic on Main Street will be shut down from Hibbert to Centennial Way/Sirrine.  All streets will reopen by late Wednesday night or early Thursday.  The times for reopening are to be determined.

Despite the traffic restrictions, downtown Mesa businesses will be open.  Free parking is located in lots off Pepper Place and 1st Avenue between Center Street and Macdonald.  The Mesa Arts Center parking lot will be closed to the general public.
