MEDIA LOGISTICS: CNN ARIZONA REPUBLICAN PRESIDENTIAL DEBATE

CNN and the Republican Party of Arizona host four GOP presidential hopefuls in the last debate before Super Tuesday. CNN anchor and chief national correspondent John King will moderate the two-hour presidential debate which will take place at the Mesa Arts Center in Mesa, Arizona on Wednesday, February 22 at 8 p.m. ET.

*** PLEASE NOTE: A credential will grant journalists access to the Press Filing Center and/or Spin Room only, NOT the debate hall.***

PRESS CREDENTIAL PICK-UP

·         The Press File Tent is located near the corner of 1st Avenue and Sirrine Street.

·         The Spin Room is located near the corner of Main and Sirrine Streets. Broadcast and radio outlets will be seated in the Spin Room.

·         The Mesa Arts Center is located at 1 East Main Street, Mesa, AZ, 85201. General media parking is located at Mesa Municipal Court Parking, 1st Ave and Pomeroy (250 E. 1st Avenue). See the attached map.

Journalists may pick up their credentials near the corner of 1st Ave and Sirrine Street. Doors will open to credentialed journalists beginning at 10 a.m. LOCAL (noon ET) on Wednesday, February 22. After passing through security, media will be required to present photo identification (passport, state ID, or driver's license) and a company ID upon check-in. Freelance journalists may provide a signed letter on company letterhead in lieu of a media company ID. Journalists must wear their credential so that it is visible at all times.

 

GENERAL MEDIA PARKING

·         General media parking is FIRST COME, FIRST SERVE at Mesa Municipal Court Parking, 1st Ave and Pomeroy (250 E. 1st Avenue). TELEVISION: See below for live truck parking.

PRESS FILING TENT AND SPIN ROOM: ACCESS AND ACCOMODATIONS

·         The Press Filing Tent and Spin Room are located on the grounds of the Mesa Arts Center. The Press File Tent is located near the corner of 1st Ave and Sirrine Street. The Spin Room is located near the corner of Main and Sirrine Streets.

·         The Press Filing Tent and Spin Room will open at 10 a.m. LOCAL (noon ET) on Wed., Feb. 22. to credentialed journalists and will close at 10 p.m. LOCAL (midnight ET).

·         There will be monitors in the Press Filing and Spin Rooms to watch the debate live.

·         An audio mult-box for excerpting the program will be available inside the Spin Room; a video mult-box with a limited number of plugs-ins will also be available on a first-come, first-serve basis. See below for details.

·         Free Wi-Fi will be available in the Press File Tent, however, a back-up wireless device is strongly recommended. Broadcast and radio journalists assigned to the Spin Room will need to provide their own wireless device.

·         Dinner will be served at 4 p.m. LOCAL (6 p.m. ET) on Wednesday. Beverages and light snacks will be available throughout the day at the Press File Tent.

 

TELEVISION: LIVE TRUCK PARKING

·         Satellite truck parking is available beginning at 3:00 a.m. LOCAL (5 a.m. ET); however, journalists will not be able to pick up credentials or enter the Press File Tent or Spin Room until 10 a.m. LOCAL (noon ET).

·         Satellite truck parking will be available on a FIRST COME, FIRST SERVE basis outside the Spin Room on Main Street, at the corner of Sirrine Street.

·         Only transmission vehicles (satellite and microwave trucks) will be allowed to park in the designated areas.

 

TELEVISION: REPORTING FROM STAND-UP LOCATION & SPIN ROOM

·         Media are permitted to report live from outside the live truck parking location and inside the Spin Room (entrance into the Spin Room after 10 a.m. LOCAL); cable run: approximately 100 feet.

·         A video mult distribution will be available in the Spin Room; cable run: approximately 100 feet.

 

RADIO

·         Radio stations will broadcast live from inside the Spin Room.

·         CNN will distribute audio to a mult-box in the Spin Room; CNN will provide the mult-box.

STILL PHOTOGRAPHY

·         A select group of still photographers will have an opportunity to briefly photograph the candidates at the start of the debate.

·         Still photographers interested in photographing the candidates at the start of the debate must assemble at 5:15 p.m. LOCAL (7:15 p.m. ET) at the Press File Tent.

·         PLEASE NOTE: Photographers in the still pool will depart the debate hall after photographing the candidates at the top of the debate.

MEDIA WALK-THRU OF THE DEBATE HALL

·         There will be a media walk-thru of the debate hall at 1 p.m. LOCAL (3 p.m. ET). Media interested in a 20-30 minute tour of the debate hall must assemble in the Press Filing Tent at 12:45 p.m. sharp (LOCAL TIME).

·         The media walk-thru will be the ONLY opportunity to shoot still photos and video footage inside the debate hall.

·         PLEASE NOTE: Journalists interested in participating in the walk-thru must have already picked up their credential at check-in.

DEBATE AUDIO AND VIDEO DISTRIBUTION

·         No video or audio equipment other than that of CNN will be permitted inside the debate hall during the debate.

·         In addition to the CNN Arizona Republican Presidential Debate footage, CNN will make available for excerpting the candidates' photo-op prior to the start of the debate.

EXCERPTING THE DEBATE

·         CNN debate footage will be made available without restriction upon the conclusion of each live debate. Exception is an embargo in Japan, and no affiliate or client re-distribution in Japan.

·         A CNN composite bug will appear lower screen right at all times during the broadcast. This bug may NOT be obscured.

·         An audio-only mult-box will be available in the Spin Room for excerpting the program. There will also be a video mult-box with a limited number of plugs-ins available on a first-come, first-serve basis.
